Parent and Child Accounts
Jiwa has two types of accounts, parent accounts and child / posting accounts. Parent accounts are read only. Basically these are accounts which total all the accounts below them. Once an account becomes a parent account then you no longer can post to that account.
Creating a Parent Account
To create a parent account all you need to do is create an account with the same account number but a different sub account number or different division number.
For example if you have a posting account 2000-000-00 and you create another account with the same account number (2000) like 2000-010-00 then Jiwa will automatically convert the 2000-000-00 into a parent account and if their are any transactions in the now parent account it will move them to the new account (2000-010-00).
A Special Note for Control Accounts
In Jiwa a control account is any account that is featured in a "Classification".
Classifications in Jiwa are basically a GL Interface table telling the system how the sub-ledger (e.g. debtors, creditors, Inventory, etc) should post to the General Ledger.
As a general rule you should not convert control accounts into parent accounts by adding sub accounts below them, but if you do then the best advise is to get in touch with us before you start.
